What Causes Hair Loss?

Both men and women suffer from hair loss, but the cause behind their balding or thinning varies. Hair loss can be the result of:

  • Hormonal changes caused by pregnancy, menopause or birth control.
  • Medications such as those used to treat arthritis.
  • Emotional or physical stress.
  • The aging process, especially after age 50.
  • A diet that lacks important nutrients such as iron, protein, fatty acids and magnesium.
  • Over-styling hair with irons, aerosol sprays and hair dye.
  • Poor circulation caused by smoking.

Each hair follicle goes through four stages. At any given time your hair follicles are in different phases of growth and regression. This cycle can be disrupted by the causes listed above or by a number of other factors.

The cycle of scalp hair growth includes:

  1. Anagen Phase—The growing stage of hair follicles that lasts 2-7 years.
  2. Catagen Phase—The regression of hair follicles, which causes them to shrink and detach. This lasts approximately 10 days.
  3. Telogen Phase—The resting stage, which can last 3-4 months. Up to 15 percent of your hair follicles are in this phase. During the telogen portion of the hair growth cycle, new hair begins to grow while old hair rests.
  4. Exogen Phase—The terminal phase of hair that causes shedding and detachment from the scalp.

Normal hair growth could resume naturally, depending on the cause behind your hair loss, but in many cases, it is permanent.

Treating Hair Loss With Microneedling and PRP

One of the most effective hair rejuvenation treatments we offer is microneedling with PRP. Microneedling involves using tiny needles to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process by creating micro-channels in the scalp. These micro-channels promote the production of collagen and elastin—important proteins involved in nourishing hair follicles and resulting hair growth.

After these channels are made in the skin, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is applied topically and/or injected into the scalp. The small channels created through microneedling offer the ideal opening for the absorption of PRP and the stimulation of hair regrowth.

Results can take several months to stabilize, and 3-4 treatments may be required for optimal results. Some patients see noticeable results after one treatment.

What is PRP?

Plasma is found in your blood and is vital to the healing process. By drawing blood from your arm, we can isolate the platlets and growth factors in your blood by using a centrifuge. The collected plasma has over 4 times the normal platlet concentration. PRP is then re-introduced into your scalp where it immediately activates and begins rejuvenating your skin to produce hair.

PRP can be combined with microneedling or performed as a stand-alone procedure. This safe, natural process works wonderfully because your own cells are used and won’t be rejected by your immune system. PRP treatments typically take 15-30 minutes and require minimal recovery time.

Micropigmentation for Hair Loss

Micropigmentation is also known as medical hairline tattooing. This hair loss treatment is performed on both men and women experiencing varying stages of hair loss or hair thinning. Natural pigments are applied to the scalp to imitate the appearance of actual hair strands. Micropigmentation offers the appearance of a full head of cropped hair and can be used on the front, side and rear of your hairline.

This process is also used to minimize the look of scars, birthmarks and burns along the scalp and restores a natural-looking hairline to hide thinning and balding. Micropigmentation can be revised or reversed and is a great non-surgical treatment for hair loss.

Viviscal® Hair Rejuvenation Products

Viviscal® supplements, shampoos and elixirs have undergone several clinical trials. Viviscal® products are proven to effectively treat hair loss and thinning. These products come together to provide nourishment from both the outside and inside to give you healthier, stronger, more voluminous hair. You could see results within 3-4 months of using the Viviscal® hair care program.

A thick, vibrant head of hair is typically associated with youth and good health. Microneedling, PRP, micropigmentation and Viviscal® products can help restore your balding or thinning hair today.
