An Inter-Society Gluteal Fat Grafting Task Force** has analyzed deaths from gluteal fat injection ("Brazilian Butt Lift" or "BBL") and offers the following advisory statement:

“The unusually high mortality rate from this procedure is greater than any other cosmetic surgery. Every surgeon performing BBLs should immediately reevaluate his or her technique.”

The Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a procedure that enhances the buttocks through fat transfer. Excess fat is harvested from other areas of the body, including the abdomen, hips, lower back and thighs through liposuction. BBL is a popular procedure for those seeking to enhance their bodies. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Cardi B posting photos of their assets on Instagram, give the impression that ‘surgery is just like make-up.’ However, with the recent reports from these major-medical societies, of patient deaths from undergoing BBL, many have now labeled it as the most dangerous cosmetic procedure.

Florida’s Board of Medicine approved an emergency rule which will take effect on June 17. This ruling limits the surgical techniques used in hopes of decreasing complications and ultimately the mortality rate of surgical BBLs.

There are many risks associated with this procedure. The reason for this advisory is due to the trend of fatalities coming from the injection of fat into large veins, which can then travel to the heart or brain, causing blood clots and pulmonary embolisms.

As demand for the BBL continues to mount, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding its safety. At JUVA Skin & Laser Center, we offer a non-surgical alternative to the traditional Brazilian Butt Lift procedure. Since winning FDA-clearance, EMSCULPT is a revolutionary and safe method of body contouring that can take the place of the Brazilian butt lift. This game-changing device utilizes electromagnetic energy to build and tone muscles. The procedure is particularly effective in enhancing the buttocks, as it can tone and boost curves for a naturally beautiful and more youthful backside. It works particularly well for individuals that don’t have enough fat for a BBL surgery or do not want to undergo the risks associated with the procedure. It requires only two thirty minute sessions twice a week for two weeks. There is no recovery period or downtime, and you can immediately resume your normal activities.

The professional team at JUVA is dedicated to meeting all the aesthetic goals of our clients through cutting-edge technology and techniques designed for results. Under the leadership of Dr. Bruce E. Katz, esteemed New York dermatologist specializing in body contouring treatments, we help our clients enhance their body profiles in a relaxing, spa-like environment. Our medical expertise and experience assures you that your procedure will be as safe and effective as it is pampering.
